The Key Groups Programme is central to our community life at St Peter's.
Key Groups:
- encourage growth in faith and confidence as Christians
- come in many guises
- may meet for a set number of sessions or a set perids of time
- offer the opportunity to explore and discuss a particular aspect of Christian life
- nurture fellowship by meeting for a varied programme
Why have Key Groups?
- Healthy small groups are an asset for a church that is seeking to grow
- Good small groups enable people with different experience and outlooks to get to know each other and learn from one another
- Everyone can help and encourage another person
- Young meet old, newcomers meet old timers, those well versed in Christian faith come into contact with those for whom Christian faith is new and strange
- Small groups need to divide and grow in number as new people join them—thus ‘growing’ the church
What happens in a Key Group?
- Key Groups will generally consist of 6 to 10 people meeting to learn, pray, discuss and do different things together
- They will generally be led by members of St Peter’s congregations and be held in host’s homes or on church premises—or wherever makes sense for the groups’ purposes
- Common elements are likely to be discussion, prayer and refreshments
- Some may involve activity more than discussion
- Sociability and spiritual nurture should both be present
- Members of groups will be invited to share responsibility for refreshments, giving and receiving lifts, different aspects of meetings etc—as each is able
What is on offer? The Key Groups Programme is constantly evolving.
