2010 sees the launch of an exciting new venture - the refurbishment of our Church Hall. This is an ambitious project but one that St Peter's believes is essential to the future growth of the church and the local community.
Here, we explain:
Why does the hall need refurbishing?
In 1937 Clarence Davey, a visionary and generous member of the Henleaze community, gave the hall to St Peter’s for church and community use. Over seven decades, in addition to church use, a wide range of people of all ages have benefited from this gift, including:
Children’s play and educational groups, Guides and Brownies, Youth and drama groups,
Badminton and table tennis, Musical and dance groups, Various social gatherings and Groups for the retired and elderly.
Currently the hall is regularly used by 25 different groups, and on average over 800 people come through its doors each week.
Investing for the future
There is a pressing need to bring all the church hall facilities up to a standard where they meet or exceed all current needs and expectations. This is especially true for the kitchen, the toilets and the informal meeting room. The developments we are planning will provide modern accommodation and facilities that meet all statutory requirements and will enable groups to undertake even more activities.
What will the new hall look like?
Integral to the “A Hall for All” project is the improved configuration of the entrance lobby
which will provide direct separate access to the lesser hall, the main hall, the improved toilets and the new informal meeting room. The new meeting room will be 20 per cent larger than the present club room, and with its large window area will provide comfortable light and airy meeting space suitable for groups of up to 20 people. The lesser hall will be slightly enlarged at its eastern end, and its sound-proofing will be improved. New storage facilities will be provided. Refitting of the kitchen will enable full catering of meals for up to 100. A catering size dishwasher is included. Toilet facilities will be rebuilt and modernised including an accessible toilet for the disabled.

How much will it cost?
“ For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him.”
Luke, chapter 14 verses 28 & 29
The cost of providing “A Hall for All” is expected to be in the region of £350,000. We already have £50,000 but need the balance to complete it.
How we will raise the money
We believe that those who have appreciated and used the hall’s facilities in the past may wish to contribute to securing its usefulness for coming generations. We are inviting personal donations from all those connected with St Peter’s and from those who belong, or have previously belonged, to organisations that meet in the present hall. We will also apply for grants from appropriate bodies, and organize fundraising events in which the people of Henleaze and the wider community can join.
How can I help?
“A Hall for All” will provide St Peter’s with 21st century meeting and catering facilities that meet the inherent potential of the building. We invite all members of the community to be involved and share in this experience.

Make a donation
We are keen to know quickly that we shall have the money to complete this project. It would make such a difference if you could make an immediate generous donation. The government’s Gift Aid scheme allows us to reclaim the tax which you have paid on the net donation, thereby increasing its value by 28.2%.e.g. a donation of £1000 from you becomes £1282 to this project. Please give generously to make this exciting venture a reality. We welcome one-off donations or you might prefer to make a regular donation
