A message from Mark Pilgrim:
I invite you to take part in one of the following groups during September – November. You will see there is a considerable emphasis on House Groups in this programme. This is because it is well recognised that the regular study, prayer and social opportunities these groups provide are most helpful for the nurture of Christians as individuals and as a church.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Evening House Groups
Gathering for study, prayer and fellowship on a regular basis, on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening. The first meeting will be preparation for future input and sociable; one gathering at least within the series would be a social, for the group to relax together informally.
Monday 14th, 21st, 28th Sept, 12th 19th, 26th Oct, 9th, 16th, 23rd Nov or
Tues 15th, 22nd, 29th Sept, 13th, 20th, 27th Oct, 10th, 17th, 24th Nov or
Weds 16th, 23rd, 30th Sept, 14th, 21st, 28th Oct 11th, 18th, 25th Nov
Choice of study material:
• Bible Study for Everyone: Mark’s Gospel with Tom Wright. Tom Wright is the Bishop of Durham and currently the Church of England’s foremost provider of bible commentaries and studies. Groups will use his Study Guide / Note Book and be able to reflect on Mark in parallel with our 8.00am and 9.45am Sunday Gospel readings which frequently come from Mark’s Gospel until Advent Sunday at the end of November.
• ‘What’s so Amazing about Grace?’ – study guide with15 minute DVD accompaniment. We speak of grace often. But do we understand it? More important, do we truly believe in it and do our lives proclaim it as powerfully as our words? Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, what does it look like in action? In this series, Yancey offers true portraits of grace's life-changing power. He searches for its presence in his own life and in the church. He challenges us to become living answers to a world that desperately wants to know What's So Amazing About Grace?
Feedback will be sought towards the end of this series of meetings to evaluate a hoped-for continuation of these groups in 2010. Meetings will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays evenings initially. This is to avoid clashes with existing Thursday events such as PCC's, Men's Curry Night, Ladies Night Out etc. Thursday meetings might be possible in future, depending on group members' other commitments.

KEY GROUPS
Finding God in ‘The Shack’
‘The Shack’ is a novel that has taken the publishing world by storm and become a best-seller. At its heart it is an extended and imaginative portrayal by William Paul Young of God the Trinity – three in one and one in three. This Key Group will enable readers to share their experience of the book and how it is helpful in developing their own understanding of Christian faith. Please read the book before the sessions!
Psalms, Prayers and Parables – the Gifts of the Spirit
An afternoon group, meeting for study, prayer and chat. Meets from 2.30pm on the 2nd Monday of the month, starting 14th September. First session: Love.
Facilitated by Valerie Peters.
Venue: Irene Peter’s flat, 18, Oatley House, St Monica’s.
Please take time to consider these opportunities carefully and decide which of them would be best to help your own spiritual development. If you can’t make every meeting in a programme – don’t worry. While 100% attendance may be impossible, simple regular attendance will be helpful for all concerned.
If you are relatively new to Christian faith or feel you are at a seeker/enquirer stage and want to know more about the basics of Christian faith and commitment before joining what may seem a rather ‘high powered’ House or Key Group, please let me or Caroline Yandell, our curate, know. We are keen to resource people’s spiritual development across the wide spectrum of experience and tradition represented at St Peter’s.
