At St Peter's we support charitable, relief, and educational work in the UK and abroad

We have strong links with Christians in Northern Uganda an area that has suffered the effects of war and rebel activity for many years. We receive regular news from our friends there, we welcome visitors, and encourage parishioners to travel to Uganda themselves.

After enduring 20 years of war, peace now seems a real possibility and the people of N Uganda are able to look forward to the massive task of re-building their lives. Many families are homeless and a whole generation of young people has missed out on education and skill development. They need our prayers and support.

In Pentecost 2012, May next year, the Diocese will be holding a celebration of our long friendship with Uganda. Bristol West Deanery has invited Bishop Johnson Gakumba, his wife Christine and the Chaplain, Rev Willy Akena for a stay of about three weeks. Bishop Johnson is the new Bishop of Northern Uganda, young, realist, yet a man of much spiritual
depth.

Although all the hosting will be free, there are expenses for each visitor of Visas (£90) Flights (£800?) and some pocket money whilst here.

On Saturday October 14th All Saints, Clifton hosted supper and auction of promises to help raise money. This was a wonderful evening and our Deanery Rep Ricky Winn wants to thank all those who supported the event or gave auction promises.

“Andrew Morgan was tremendous as the auctioneer and we raised over £2000 on the auction alone.  Those who attended said it was a great evening. Guests were regaled with good short talks from Stuart Taylor and Kate Welham(Deputy Head of Red Maids school), and from David Morris with two of the Christ Church students who visited Nebbi in the summer. The whole thing was rounded off with a delicious supper. We are very grateful to Father Richard for welcoming us there.”

In December 2009 a new bishop was consecrated in the Diocese of N Uganda. One year on, the diocese has produced a colourful and informative record of Bishop Johnson Gakumba's first year in office.
